A partnership between MBB and LERN and the LWT the main focus of The Biodiverse Society is to enhance and update the information on 210 Local Wildlife Sites throughout Lancashire and North Merseyside through a series of targeted training and engagement with local naturalists and communities. The project is funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund until October 2017. http://www.lancswt.org.uk/biodiversity-society-project http://www.lancswt.org.uk/news/2016/05/09/biodiverse-society-blog-may-2016

Merseyside BioBank Active Naturalists or MBAN for short. Was set up way back in 2011 to try to encourage active local naturalists to take on learn about and undertake biological recording as an extension to their existing interests in wildlife and natural history. Many members are already part of other local naturalist or specialist groups. MBAN is different in that it focuses on biological recording as a core part of its activity. There is a wealth of knowledge within the group and it is hoped over time that members will begin to lead, mentor and share their knowledge with each other.

In 2014 Merseyside BioBank worked with the Freshwater Habitats Trust to kickstart the national PondNet project in North Merseyside. The project didn't end there however and we are continuing to support the work and encourage volunteers with a freshwater focus to take part! Have a look at our interactive data portal WaterNet to adopt sites, enter records, or view and analyse data. Use PondNet’s standardised recording forms and training guides to help with your surveys. Part of the national 'Back from the Brink' project, 'Gems in the Dunes' is based on the Sefton Coast and aims to enhance that area for the benefit of some of our most endangered species and rarest habitats.

In 2015 Ben Deed (Merseyside BioBank) and Thom Dallimore (Edge Hill University) are hoping to kickstart a quadrant atlas project for the recording of Springtails (Collembolla). If you would like to express an interest in taking part (e.g. collecting or identification; or PR!) please do so here for now. I will also try to keep updates coming in as and when.

This project was initially developed back in 2015 with the intention of increasing the poor level of coverage in records for species of Sheildbug and Squashbug. Draft resources were compiled by David Mallaburn during his time as a volunteer and are now being completed by Jim Pearson in 2016.

What's your thing? Over time many of us discover a passion for a particular group of animals or plants. These forums are for sharing your knowledge and experiences of that wildlife.

The sometimes controversial subject of data flow. How has access to your record, does it work how you thought it would and why are some records not available?

There are a wealth of online recording systems and apps available with more all the time. Some brilliant some not so much. What happens to your record after you send it, how uses it and where does it go?
